Art Adventures: Summer at the Hive
Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays | Starting June 10 Art Hive | Staunton, VA How it Works: Each day is a two-part intensive. We spend the morning building foundations and the afternoon finishing a masterpiece. Send your artist in clothes that can handle ink, bleach, and turmeric. Sign up for individual classes, one week or all the weeks! Preregister by May 1st. The Schedule Week 1: Ink & Thread June 10: Prints on Textiles (Styrofoam & Monoprints) Skip the paper and go straight to the fabric. Morning is for carving styrofoam stamps, while the afternoon is dedicated to experimental monoprints. June 11: Screen Printing (Custom Stencils) The ultimate DIY skill. Create your own stencils in the morning and learn how to pull ink like a pro in the afternoon. June 12: Patch Making (Wearable Art) Wear your art on your sleeve. Spend the morning designing custom icons and the afternoon stitching them into professional-grade patches Week 2: Paint & Precision June 17: Abstract Painting (The Large Grid) Large Grid: Think inside the box to create something bold. Build a structured foundation in the morning, then break the rules with color and texture in the afternoon. June 18: Abstract Painting (Squeegee Pulls) Squeegee Pulls: No brushes allowed. Use squeegees to drag thick layers of paint for a professional “accidental” look. Layer your colors early and add the finishing details late. June 19: Beginning Linocut (Stamp Making) Learn the high-stakes art of the stamp. Spend the morning carefully carving your vision into the block and the afternoon pressing your signature mark. Week 3: Alchemy & Upcycling June 24: Bleach Painting & Clothing Reverse the rules of laundry. In the morning, we use bleach to “un-paint” designs onto dark fabric. By the afternoon, we add fresh pops of color back in. Please bring in a piece of clothing. June 25: Upcycled Wallets (Fused Plastic Bags) Turn grocery store trash into durable treasure. We fuse plastic layers into “fabric” before lunch and build custom wallets after. June 26: Tin Man Magnets (Altoids Tin Robots) Give a mint tin a second life as a tiny robot. Assemble the metal body in the morning and create moveable limbs in the afternoon. Week 4: Nature & Light July 1: Rock Weaving (Stone Tapestries) Turn ordinary stones into pocket-sized tapestries. Start with foundational wraps in the morning and move into intricate, multi-color patterns after lunch. July 2: Turmeric Sun Prints (Spice Art) Use kitchen spices to create golden masterpieces. We mix our “magic potions” in the morning and let the UV rays reveal our designs in the afternoon. July 8: Cyanotype Prints (Solar Blueprints) Harness the power of the sun to create classic “blueprint” art. Use the morning light to compose with shadows and the afternoon to develop your final prints. ( Note: No classes on Friday, July 3) Register Now – Space is limited. All supplies included, except clothing for Bleach class
