TONGUES & EYEBALLS – the Art of Steve Kizer

TONGUES & EYEBALLS – art by Steve Kizer With a foundation in graphic design and printmaking, Steve Kizer brings a bold, graphic approach to painting. This recent body of work explores the strange and the mythical through a series of painted figures that exist somewhere between deity and demon. This work is an exploration of concepts related to spiritual mysticism, and mythical worship. Elements of protection, insight, fear, and reverence reveal themselves in godhead forms. Repeating motifs of tongues and eyeballs act as symbols of perception, consumption, and expression, blurring the boundaries between seeing and being seen, speaking and devouring. Steve can be found in Staunton, doing what he can to keep creative culture alive and weird. Steve’s art will be on display through the end of May. Opening Reception, SATURDAY | MAY 9 | 5 – 7 PM FREE
