DEPOT SPIRIT BOX TOUR — THE TRAIN WRECK OF 1890
Join us on Sunday, April 26th, for a special investigative edition of Staunton’s Ghost Tours — a 75-minute evening experience at Staunton’s historic depot station. On April 28th, 1890, tragedy struck these very tracks when a devastating train wreck claimed the life of Miss Myrtle Knox. Now, 136 years later, her story still lingers in the shadows of the depot. Many believe that Miss Knox never truly left… and that her presence can still be felt along the platform where that fatal accident occurred. During this guided tour, you’ll hear the documented history of the 1890 wreck, the circumstances surrounding Miss Knox’s death, and accounts from witnesses who believe the depot remains active to this day. We will also share other lesser-known stories connected to the station and the rail line that helped shape Staunton’s past. Following the historical portion of the tour, you will be introduced to a piece of investigative equipment known as a Spirit Box. This device rapidly scans radio frequencies, producing fragments of sound that some researchers believe spirits may manipulate to form communication. Before conducting a live session, you’ll listen to previously recorded audio clips captured during past investigations — including recordings from earlier depot tours — allowing you to hear how responses are analyzed and evaluated. The evening concludes with a live Spirit Box session inside the depot area. Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions as we attempt to reach those connected to Staunton’s haunted history. The session will be recorded for careful review and analysis. Any compelling audio or documented findings captured during your tour will be shared on our website and YouTube channel. We are approaching the 136th anniversary of the 1890 train wreck. In paranormal research, anniversaries are often believed to heighten residual activity — moments in time when the past feels closer than usual. Will the depot remain silent… Or will history answer back? Tour departs from the front entrance of the New Street Parking Garage, 35 S. New Street. We meet on the corner by the stoplight, corner of Johnson and S. New Street Please arrive about 15 minutes before your tour begins.
