Novice Irish Session at Queen City Music Studios: Slower Tempos for Beginners

Doug Sheridan hosts a slower group session of Irish Music for players that aren’t quite ready to join in the fast tempo reels and jigs at the Marino’s Sessions on 1st & 3rd Thursdays. This session is for novice players and those willing to play more slowly so others can learn. Players are welcome to join us for Irish tunes right in The Shop at Queen City Music Studios on Wednesday, August 27th from 6:30-9pm. This free community offering will likely continue bi-weekly if there is enough interest! Help us spread the word?! Donations are graciously accepted. More about Doug: Doug Sheridan’s musical roots are in the Ozarks and Missouri fiddling and got his first lessons from family friend and Rounder Records artist Art Galbraith. Early on, Doug expanded his taste in music to include tunes from the British Isles. He toured Ireland in the 80’s and took lessons from Kevin Burke and Liz Carrol at Elkins College. Soon, he and two others started a Contra Dance band called “The Jig Is Up” that played dances from Baltimore to Atlanta for over 15 years. “We had dance couples meet at our dances, marry, and have children that later danced to the Jig is Up as well.” Fiddle lessons from Doug will focus on set up, bow and fingering techniques, improv, phrasing, tone, playing by ear, and practice methods. Irish fiddle can demand a wide variety of skills to make the music danceable! Beginners and Intermediate levels.
