Three Notch’d Road Baroque presents Requiem Æternam: Bach, Purcell, Hughes, Walker

In the opening concert of its 2024-45 season, Three Notch’d Road: The Virginia Baroque Ensemble explores Requiem-themed early music of Germany, England, and America.

The program abounds in music of memory and hope and will feature two monumental works by a young J.S. Bach (the chaconne for violin and cantata “Actus Tragicus”) alongside selections by Henry Purcell, Thomas Campion, William Walker, and living composer David Hughes.

With period instrumentalists Anne Timberlake (recorders), Fiona Hughes (violin), René Schiffer (cello & viola da gamba), Jane Leggiero (gamba), and Joel VanderZee (organist & baritone)

**Preconcert talk by Artistic Director Fiona Hughes 30 minutes before the performance.
